I'm running ClarkConnect on an old laptop with a broken screen as my router. It's hopefully not too different from your Slackware router in configuration. I love it because it was super cheap, consumes almost no power, and hardly ever runs the fan, so it's silent.
ClarkConnect has a menu entry for bandwidth control, but it doesn't work, at least not the way that you would expect. Therefore people recommend running the "Wonder Shaper" script. I have not had need to run it myself, but lots of people say that it works. The script is very human readable so should be easy enough to understand and edit as needed.

BTW - Aside from the lack of bandwidth control, I'm amazed at how good ClarkConnect is. I recommend it for such an application. The periodic remote backup of all the machines on the LAN is an especially good feature for me.
