I know about the cool tech bit, dunno about the shell scripts nor interface
decisions. I use it to tunnel X applications seamlessly over my Comcast
line to pretty much anywhere else in the world I want to use them. I am
sitting at my work desk right now, typing this on Claws-Mail running off my
home linux box. I have Comcast's standard upload rate (which isn't great),
yet it still feels like I am running the apps on this machine.

Of course, once I try and fire up something with video, things go kinda
wonky. Though nowhere near as bad as one would expect. Things have advanced
a lot in the last couple of years.

The performance is good enough that I tend to forget what apps are local
and what apps are remote. I'll try and play an audio file and wonder why
the hell I can't hear anything. Then I realize that it's a remote app, and
the sound is actually playing on my workstation at home. I have received a
complaint or two from my wife when music or sounds all of a sudden start
playing in an empty room. :)

I am switching to Comcast's teleworker package, which will increase my
upload rates dramatically. That should correlate to faster response, and
actual watchable video. Not that I can think of any reason at all to pipe
video over that connection. But it'll be cool that I can. :)
