Thanks to all the large number who came out to make the event a success.

Dave and I were able to help Al Yuhaz get his older dual boot Win98
and Xubuntu PC up and rolling. For those who try this, the Ubuntu
LiveCD installer overruns the screen, and the buttons to click are off
the bottom of the screen. Use keystrokes ALT-F to go to next screen,
and use ALT-TAB to backup to the correct choice when the system is
ready to write the partitions.

Unforunately the edubuntu install on Al's second PC failed, and we ran
out of time to work with it.

Also, something had fudged the partition table on this Win98 drive, so
the Ubuntu installer did not setup his windows partition in the grub
menu. Something had altered the first partition on the windows
harddrive as type Xenix instead of the correct fat32. After correcting
that and adding the typical boot stanza to grub, to wit

title win 98
root (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

Windows booted with no problems.

Also many users (like Al) are not pleased with the Ubuntu choices of
"hiddenmenu" and only a 3 second timeout to make choices! These are
easy to fix in the grub menu.

Manfred had a system that failed to start the desktop - complaining
about the status of a .....rc file. The answer to this problem was:

The particular Linux distro he was using did not like the permissions
setting for his home directory. For whatever reasons, his home
directory had typical permissions 755 (full access by owner, r/o and
directory acess to group and world), but the distro required 700 (no
access by anyone except owener).

Much oohing and ahhing over the tiny little OLPC laptop on display.
