I've had an Acer Aspire 1691WLMi for about 4 years now and it's been
great. I ran BOINC (re: Seti at Home, etc.) on it 24/7 for a while but
that did heat it up a bit, to the point of killing the disk drive. But
I run MythTV and dual monitors all the time without BOINC now and heat
isn't much of a problem. New laptops are a hit and miss operation for
Linux support since the graphics and wifi chips seem to evolve daily,
but it's mostly a matter of whether you need full support for latest
technologies or just adequate support for existing technologies (do you
really need fully accelerated 3D?). FYI - I prefer the Intel video
these days because I've had problems with the NVidia driver (from
NVidia, don't use the open source drive) and the Intel driver have been
very stable for a while now.

I'm thinking about a Acer subnotebook for my next one, possibly as a
mobile MythTV frontend for the home but only if it still supports TV
out. I saw one at Circuit City a few weeks back but don't know the
name. It was priced between $300-$400.
