What are you trying to edit? I don't understand the question. If you get 
the GUI GRUB boot menu you can use the keyboard to navigate through the 
GUI and change boot options etc. If you want to edit grub.conf on a 
bootable CD that probably won't work because the CD is read-only. If you 
want to edit grub.conf on a hard drive while booted from a CD, your best 
bet might be to use a text editor since grub.conf is just a text file.
