Oh yeah I forgot you were on this list and you work for $E! Super!

1. We are in Canada. Mexico has much better weather but unfortunately I
am where we have Winter, and it's coming Soon.

2. There could be several satellite signal providers. It is difficult
to say beforehand which satellite someone would want the dish pointed
at. For the Canadian networks there is Bell ExpressVu and, um, maybe
something else I think. Sorry I am not very knowledgeable, I just have
basic cable now. I think it's legal to buy and own a free-to-air
receiver in Canada so some people might have those and want to use them,
but it's hard to say. I would think that the vast majority of people
would just want to pay the subscription fee and plug an antenna cable of
some sort into their satellite receiver and watch whatever program they
wanted on their TV. Anything more complicated than that might be too
complicated for them. But since they can't do that they complain to the
property managers, and we are half-heartedly trying to come up with some
sort of solution for this. So far (for several years now) nobody has
had any good ideas.

3. Are there dish network providers in Canada? Last I checked was a few
years ago and there were not.

I might try calling the satellite TV company(ies?) here to see if they
have any suggestions. I am going to get blown off or ignored, or at
best I'll get the runaround from them, which is why I haven't tried that
yet. The suggestions from this list have been in general quite
helpful. Please let me know if any of you have any more ideas
especially for interesting technologies related to this.

I used to have a satellite receiver and a slingbox and that worked fine
as long as there was exactly one client at any time and as long as you
didn't try to do anything fancy with the remote. That wouldn't work in
this case because of the many:many problem. We can put more antennas on
the roof, as many as we want (more or less), but running antenna cabling
to an individual suite could be a real challenge. If we could just run
the antenna cabling to an electrical room on the top floor, then do
something clever with it, that would be best.

Thanks,
Jim
