[clue-tech] Clueless, pun intended

Hi Collins, the interesting thing is that when I installed the package, (CAELinux 2008 32 bit) the synaptic button is there and worked. But the first time I hooked up to the internet (wireless only, the computer is in the basement) a little window opened on the desktop and did something. Then synaptic would not work. I think the developer disabled it because the packages are so interrelated that they figured nobody would be able to keep track of the dependencies. So now when I try to run Synaptic I get command not found. All I really want to do is upgrade the OS, which is PCLinuxOS 2007 32 bit, so it's really dated. The new CAELinux packages are Ubuntu 64 bit and everything works as it should, including synaptic, but they no longer support the old 32 bit install that I'm trying to milk. Its got some different software than the newer one that I use. I'm going to try a reinstall as you suggested as the workaround. Maybe "aptitude" would be a better approach. I'll let you know what happens. Bill
