As it turns out the user has VLC installed and both Internet Explorer and Firefox kept insisting that the file be opened with VLC, no option appeared to allow for just downloading the file. In frustration I found webfetch.exe which is supposed to be somewhat like wget. After attempting to use webfetch and having the contents of the file dumped to STDOUT causing the CMD window to stop responding ( wasn't even able to close it ) thus requiring a reboot of Windows ( version 7 ). I just gave up.

Beyond that however, just to hear someone bash/bad mouth and OS because *they* don't like it, to me is unacceptable. I run windows in a VM for one application for which there is no Linux/OS X counterpart. It's a tool, I use whatever tools I need to do the job I'm requested to do. Do I like Windows no? Do I necessarily like Microsoft? Not really. But my kids and myself both own XBox's... What I feel it is important to remember that Microsoft meets the needs of many people today, and further it has been the driving force ( perhaps due to dislike or even hatred ) in the Open Source community as well. Microsoft got to where they are for a reason,
anti-competitive practices buying or stealing others ideas (software and
cobbling them in to their system) No respect here!
Although I have to support this these machines with MS on them does not
mean I respect the company.
