guspuppet (and friends at CLUE),

Alas, when it comes to beer I would like to say that I am a "cheap date"
and that "pogger beer" is o.k., but I can not bring myself to do that.

Several years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes, so it had to limit my
beer intake considerably. Therefore when I do drink beer, I like it to
be "good beer".

I prefer ales over porters and stouts, bitters are fine and beers that
are hoppy are good. Wheat beers on a hot summer day are refreshing.

Craft breweries/brewpubs where they brew their own beers and have
"samplers" are often, but not always, good.

As to quantity, again the disease kicks in....so the good news is that
other than your own consumption, I will probably still be a "cheap
date".

We won't even talk about what diabetes did to my love of wine.

There are good sides to this, however, and where I used to weigh 270, I
now weight 207, and I am headed (hopefully) to my post-college weight of
180....

So my mantra has become "Life is too short to spend time drinking bad
beer."

I have also developed a fondness for single-malt scotch from the island
of Islay....since you can sip a 1/2 oz "taste" of scotch for hours. I
have been known to simply smell a good scotch for an hour before tasting
it the first time.

Warmest regards,

md
