[clue] File Server - URAID or FREENAS

I'm also looking to setup home network storage.  The options I've found are:

Open-E

I have some friends who are using this to support their business.

FreeNAS

could be a problem due to hardware compatibility with FreeBSD

Openfiler

a Openfiler how-to

I had not heard of the unRAID NAS option but it looks interesting.

unRAID server version 4.7 stable release

Another option is using your favorite Linux distro & add in storage modules (NFS server, iSCSI, Samba, DRBD).  This would allow you to add non-storage network services such as Bind DNS, DHCP, NTP, & the like.

I have been using openSUSE & SLES for a few years.  Found out that SLES 11 has just released SP2.  Impressive feature set.

Also, SUSE is the only distro to have an partnership agreement with VMware.

Just my $0.02

>Server Details;
>Intel MB- Xeon quad core, 3WARE 12 port card, 12 500GB SATA drives currently set at Raid 50. I would like to set one up with UNRAID and one with FREENAS but did not want to spend the $$$ on a new Raid card if it would not be worth it.
