Thank you for the responses. I ended up purchasing DropBox for $9.99/month. They provide both .deb and .rpm files and source code. I installed the source as my user rather than as root. I recognize doing so does not eliminate security issues but it perhaps reduces them. So far I am pretty happy with DropBox.
