[clue] the WTH boxes

Yeah, I could see that raising an eyebrow... Any (coherent) output from ifconfig? Off the top of my head, it seems reasonable to think that the box could have the routing table & other data cached in RAM - but as soon as it hiccups, it's game over...

By way of explanation, what got me thinking about this topic is I found a centos box with network connectivity and no ifcfg file for the device. For the life of me, I couldn't quite process the idea that maybe it's possible for an eth* to exist in RAM without the corresponding file? Had no idea why I was even logged into the thing.

Most users say if its not broken don't fix it, problem is they don't maintain it either.

If clue will allow me to whine/share for a minute, I'm curious. Have you ever had that moment. Have you ever had that moment where you come across a box so messed up that you honestly have no idea how the thing is even still working?
