As Jed pointed out, there is no option to strip attachments.  There probably 
is in the 2.1.x versions.

In our version of mailman (2.0.13), there is a limit to the size of an email.  
For clue-tech, it is currently set to 60 Kbytes [max_message_size], which 
looking at most of the postings, is about 6-8 times too larger than the 
average.

I suppose we could adjust this size to something like 10 or 15 Kbytes for now.

Yes.  You can edit the mbox file and then regenerate the archive.  I have done 
this before.
