I'm torn on this. On the one hand, I think it is great that Nero is
making a Linux version of their software. Assuming they haven't ripped
anybody off, that is.
But on the other hand, I have absolutely no need for it, so I won't be
downloading it.
But I'd be happy if much more companies would follow suit. Even though
you can do just about anything you need to with Linux, it isn't all
there. I am always reading about really cool gadgets that I want, and
then realizing I can't really enjoy that good gadget.
My wife has a couple-hundred-dollar drawing pad -- the Linux version of
the driver has been in development for years, yet it is still
considerably behind the Mac/Windows drivers. My iPod will sync with
Linux, but it is a fairly hackish venture. My webcam works with Linux,
but not quite as well as it did in Windows. My SB Live is fully
functional in Linux, but the proprietary set of 100 some odd mixer
channels is impossible to tune to my liking. Etc...
So I'd be pleased as punch if we ever got to the point where any old
hardware off the shelf at CompUSA had a really good chance of working
*completely* with Linux.
