[clue-talk] The stimulus bill

To be fair to Rush, Jeremy's right.
"I'm not talking about search-and-destroy, but I've been listening to
Barack Obama for a year-and-a-half. I know what his politics are. I
know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don't want them to
succeed."
....
"Why is it any different, what's new, what is unfair about my saying I
hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what's
gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more
of it? I don't care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if
the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: "Limbaugh: I Hope Obama
Fails." Somebody's gotta say it. "

Rush never meant to say that he hopes the country fails. He honestly
believes that the 8 years of GWBush worked great, that the 8 years of
Clinton were a horrible failure, and that the Obama administration will
destroy the country. He wants Obama's "plan to destroy America" to
fail. In my eyes, that makes him batshit insane, but at least he's not
calling for the destruction of America.

That being said, I don't understand Jeremy's and the majority of people
on this list's problem with Obama. Throwing around the phrase
"socialism" doesn't explain anything, other than you listen to Rush too
much. "Redistribution of wealth" is another one of those empty
phrases. Bush's administration moved wealth from the poor to the
rich...how is that not redistribution? When President Bush signed the
TARP legislation, how come that wasn't "government-controlled
corporations", but Obama's package which pays small businesses to fix
bridges is? In Bush's legislation, the government actually took a
controlling interest in corporations.

I'd like to challenge this board to come up with a single US president
from the last century that embodies conservative principles. Bush 43?
Raised the debt, raised spending, took control of corporations,
redistributed wealth. Bush 41? Raised taxes. Reagan? Increased both
government spending and the number of government employees. In fact,
Reagan was so bad that the only reason we saw employment increase was
due to the massive increase in government employees. Ford? Well, to
tell you the truth, I don't know crap about what Ford did. Nixon? The
guy was practically a hippy. Raised taxes, controlled prices, made nice
with Communist governments. How far back to we need to look to find a
true conservative?

So, who is this mythical "conservative President"? Or, are y'all just
going to keep hoping that every person the US elects will fail because
he doesn't meet your purity test?

Compare to Clinton. Raised the number of millionaires. Lowered the
number of government employees. Balanced the budget. Reformed
welfare. Removed the last vestiges of the fairness doctrine. Removed
government regulation of the energy, telecommunications, media and
banking industries. Reduced the number of abortions. Crime dropped
dramatically during his administration. Seems to me this guy should be
the Republican's poster-boy. Heck, he even bombed China.
