When I first installed virtualbox, I had two needs. The first one may
be moot now, since it has been two years since I diligently worked on
it. The second recently paid off, when I actually updated to the latest
version of Linux Mint.

1. I need to have a virtual Windows XP operation, without dual-booting,
to maintain my old genealogical data. The program in question has never
worked in Wine, but has continued to run with several upgrades of VB.

2. I should discipline myself to test-run new versions of Linux in a VM
to protect myself from myself so I don't destroy almost-completely
backed up data in a couple of databases that only I have copies of.
Otherwise, I would be trying KDE today, Gnome tomorow and Fedora the
next and probably wiping out this week's data, even though I did a
back-up "just last week". I lucked out with the last two updates of
Ubuntu and Kubuntu by not wiping out the databases, but royally screwing
up most of my system while testing the updates without VB.

I hope that helps.
