Jim,

There is a project called Gimp Print which will allow you to print to the
printers full capabilites, and the Epson 900 is supported. Don't know if the
lack of the 'G' was important. This tool is VERY easy to setup for gimp, and
can I can no print photo-like prints with my Epson Photo Stylus 750. There
is a general driver for Ghostscript and for CUPS that can be also used.
These are much more involved to setup (involves copying files into the
Ghostscript source tree and recompiling it yourself). I haven't gotten it to
work yet outside of Gimp, but I think my problems are Debain specific (I am
trying to make it into a deb).

Check it out here:

The Epson printers are well supported by this project, so you might check it
out.
