They only complaint I have with epson stylus's is... They eat ink to
fast and you have to clean them way to often. Dumped mine and am getting an
HP deskjet 2250. HP supports it under Unix/Linux, it has individual
cartridges for each color of ink, has built in ehternet for jetdirect for
networking. Nice printer. Nice price though ~$500 - $600.

I replaced my HP 870Cse with the Epson 900 (around $240). I, too noticed
that I needed to do a clean-the-printhead deal if the printer was not used
in a day or two. The HP rarely needed this, although it was 300x300 dpi max
and the Epson is 3x that resolution (smaller/more dense printhead nozzles (3
picoliters) clog easier?)

THe HP was reliable for three years before the paper feed mechanism died
beyond reasonable repair. My previous printer was an Epson - very reliable
(never did die after six years of use). I switched from HP because I have
grown to dislike the company due to its' poor after- market product-support
(just about impossible to get reasonable support for their tape drive units,
which I have had unbelievable reliability problems with). Your mileage may
vary.

In the market for a cheap Epson 740, which are running $50 - $75 when
available.
