With my current machine, the kernel reports the
stepping of the CPU on boot up.  I'm not sure
whether this info is reported for all CPUs or not.

You might consider booting up your machine with
each processor individually to see if the kernel
will report the stepping for you.  If they are
the same then that's a problem you can rule out.

Unfortuneately, if you bought your processors from
different sources or at different times, chances
are against their stepping being the same.
