It has to do with not recognizing the file system usually, sometimes
because that file system is not compiled in, sometimes because of bad
media.

Make sure you have the right file systems compiled in.  I suggest (for
reading wintel stuff) that you do the MS-DOS FS, the Win95 long names,
and the Joliet extensions listed under CDROM ISO 9660.  Later they will
be called FAT and VFAT.
