You mean a fast system with a relatively slow burner (so it can't empty the
buffer too quickly).  As important is where the hd and burner are, and whether
their busses can keep up.  Going from an ATA100 hd to a fast burner on the same
cable doesn't work very well.

Newer burners have buffer underrun protection (JustLink, BurnProof, pick your
TM) that allows them to pick up where they left off (there's a small gap, but
not anything that affects the filesystem).  Does this require anything special
that Linux (or cdrecord) may not provide?
