If good engines were free and could be picked up anywhere, sure!  How come you
can buy a motherboard with no CPU?

I had a guy who 'builds custom PCs for people' tell me that an OS was required
to keep him out of piracy trouble with MS.  No doubt paranoia brought on by
supping with the devil.  I was quick to mention Linux and that I had just bought
2 computers without any OS.

BTW, Neil Stephenson has an interesting car analogy in "In the Beginning was the
Command Line".  I like his thinking and it's an easy read.
