They were plenty helpful -- sometimes people need a swift kick in the
ass just as much as they need a hand up. When you're being a lazy
inconsiderate jerk, it's helpful if people tell you so you can stop
being an lazy inconsiderate jerk rather than just coddling the person
and letting them slouch through life leaving messes for other people to
clean up.

If Chris is having trouble unsubscribing for some reason, he should say
so and it should be attended to pronto, it is damn annoying to be
subscribed to a list and not be able to unsubscribe -- but if the only
problem is that he's too damn lazy to do it himself, then I don't see
why the admins or anyone else should have to go out of their way to take
care of a problem he's perfectly able to solve himself. Stop putting the
blame on the admins and put it where it belongs -- squarely on Chris.

You said something to the effect of questioning whether you want to be
associated with "people like this." Ask yourself if you want to be on a
list with a world full of people like Chris where half the traffic is
"unsubscribe me." Better, yet, ask yourself if you'd want to work with
Chris and have to depend on someone too lazy to unsubscribe from a
newsgroup day-to-day in a work situation. "Hey Chris, did you get that
report done yet?" "NO... I was hoping you'd do it for me." "Hey Chris,
did you fix the Web server yet?" "No... you should do it for me." etc...
