The company I work for uses jabber both for control (but not
necessarily monitoring) as well as security.  With Jabber, we can use
SSL to encrypt our traffic and pass sensitive information without fear
of anything leaking into the ether and having someone else "see" it.
IT makes life much easier.

I also (for some reason) installed "gaim-encryption", which will do
end-to-end encryption (although only myself and one other person
actually use it).
