Yeah, I wonder if there is/will be a legal requirement to log conversations
if it's used for company business - like email.

Internal Jabber servers (and similar products) can be compared to a
company's PBX system. Except for colocated offices, you don't route calls
out to the phone company and back to someone else's desk. Without installing
your own, that's effectively what you do for AIM, MSN and Yahoo.
