I agree that RedHat seems to be focused more on Servers than, say,
Suse, but that doesn't mean that it's an anti-desktop distribution.

Collins - I don't have any answers to your problems.  

http://www.centos.org/  has links to forums and mailing lists on their
"Contact Us" section.  I recommend you ask around there in addition to
here.
