Sounds like a bad Flash Drive/Jump Drive and you need to return it.  The 
Lexar I use for work and home is 1 GB in size and work great on my Mepis 
Debian box.  I think it is USB 2.0 capable and has yet to give me a 
problem.  I had to do no special configuration to mount it.
