I'm in the same boat ... well, at least as far as noise goes. I've yet to
come up with a good solution. You should start by isolating just what's
causing the noise. On one of my machines, what I thought was fan noise
turned out to be a hard drive. You'll be completely safe disconnecting the
CPU fan for long enough to tell how much noise it's making.

Next time I'm able to throw money at the noise issue, I'm going to try
using Dynamat on the case panels.
