Compaq Armada M700, with 686 kernel 2.6.12 -- nothing unusual or 
special.  Seems like a problem with X, or maybe udev is somehow 
"unregistering" the usb port when it stops detecting the mouse for a 
while.  Installing gpm didn't seem to make any difference.

You know, I was wondering why they got rid of hotplug in lieu of udev.  
It didn't seem hotplug had really gotten started before they decided to 
scrap it.
