You should see some improvement.  I don't know if Fedora will detect the
Turion and install a 64-bit Linux or if Fedora has two versions.  Suse
will definitely automatically install the appropriate version.

You need a bi-arch system, that is, you need 32-bit and 64-bit libraries
installed if you want to run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit OS.  I think both
Gentoo and Suse automatically install both libraries.  Other distos
probably do too.
