subsequently the dependencies as required. Where I got
stuck was:

rpm --upgrade --force popt[whatever]

failed because rpm 4.0.x needed the installed version.
Hence the e-mail.

Anyway, I did find the --nodeps flag but wasn't
entirely comfortable with it.

Running nodeps on perl-base will affect the rest of
the perl installation how? And from there, do I need
to track down and upgrade the assortment of packages
associated with perl? Seems like I should.

After finding all the dependencies and downloading the
required updates, I ran --nodeps on each of the rpms
that seemed to require it. Finally I reran urpmi
--auto-select. It ran as it did before, listed all the
files to be upgraded and then failed again with 5
[blank] is needed by [blank] lines.

Sooo, what's the next step? Go in to the
/var/cache/urpmi/rpm and manually apply the upgrades?

I'll tell you, it seems like I'm heading down a rat
hole and it's just getting darker and darker :-)

Thanks for the reply though.

Carl
