Yeah, I tried that (check my initial email) as a comcast customer.
When I try to telnet to port25 on smtp.comcast.net it eventually
telnet smtp.comcast.net 25
Trying 76.96.30.117...
telnet: connect to address 76.96.30.117: Operation timed out
Trying 76.96.30.117...
telnet: connect to address 76.96.30.117: Can't assign requested address
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
Ask their support people? I'll get 1 of two answers:
1) Reboot my computer
2) The internet doesn't work with Linux, only windows..
