Since there's so much interest this, I'll update what's going on with my
router.

For the record, it's a Linksys wrt54gl v1.1

After taking a long break, I sat down to fix it. Armed with pages of
troubleshooting guides, written notes, and several firmware binaries.

1. Directly connected it into my PC via network cable.

2. Booted it up and opened Firefox to 192.168.1.1

3. Stare at the DD-WRT setup screen that pops right up.

Yep. That was it. It just worked. Kind of anti-climatic, but I suppose I
could get my daily dose of drama from somewhere else.

My first impression of DD-WRT was "Is that it? It looks like all the same
options dressed up in a different GUI." You really have to poke around to
see some of the neat stuff.

The "Overclocking" tab is most intriguing, I'll have to see what the chip
runs at naturally before playing with that.

And the whole point of me doing this: The dynDNS settings, was exactly
what I needed. It had an field for setting the interval for a forced
refresh, and it actually showed you the log. Huge improvement over the
Linksys version where you set things up and got no feedback.

The new GUI also feels faster. I didn't expect that, so I didn't pay close
attention to that aspect before I upgraded. Am I imagining things or has
anyone else noticed this?

I recommend doing this, and will always do this from now on.
