I have Qwest ADSL, and I have a static IP address - they do it for
some sum per month.

As far as I can tell no ports are blocked, either. I'm running a web
server, an SMTP server and SSHD on the static IP address, and I get
web hits, SMTP email, and I'm actually SSH'ing in right now. I've
never done something link and NMAP scan to tell for sure.

I do *not* have the "MSN Live" or whatever. I pay extra to stay well
away from Microsoft. I don't remember if I had to lie and say I had a
Mac, or if I revealed linux.

I recall that I had to use the Qwest web pages to order the static
IP address: the customer service rep couldn't even do it.

One suggestion: call the DSL customer care line (can't recall the
number off the top of my head) *after* 4:30 or 5pm Mountain.
The ordinary service reps have gone, and a lot of the time you get in
with a real DSL tech, who may have the answers you need.
