[clue-tech] Samba problamba

Mike and Dave,

I have RTFM'd a lot. I'm sorry for my poor question.

Here is a high-level overview:

I have a Samba 3.x on Ubuntu server that has been working great for a few years.

I'm using a Samba user-map to map several domain accounts to one Unix account.

The system had a disk failure, and I had to do some work to recover, but I don't remember changing the Samba config around the time of the break. Nonetheless, it doesn't work now.

As of the break, none of the domain accounts work, but the Unix account credentials work to login to Samba. I think I remember things working this way in Samba 2.x with "security = user" and "encrypt passwords = no".

I've played with the user-map and the config file until I'm blue. I can't figure out why it cut to this behavior.

A few years ago, I had an update take Samba out entirely, but a subsequent update the next day fixed it right up. This break has been in for over a week, and I've checked for newer updates several times.

I feel like a waterbed. (I'm baffled.)
