Dennis pointed out that the server was down last night.  It's been rebooted and is running again but 
it may have been down for a couple of weeks.

If you tried to send email to the list while it was down I think you'd have a bounce to tell you 
that it failed.

So I'd like to set up a process on my server that will tell me if the web site doesn't respond. 
Seems like that will be easy to script (probably a one liner with curl or wget).  But before I do 
that, is there a generic solution that can use instead?

I don't want a full blown nagios type system, just something lightweight.
